Morgan Henry Kerr is the Founder of I AM MAMO, a queer parenthood consultancy dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and couples on their journey to parenthood. Launched in 2023, Morgan created the company after navigating her own challenging trying-to-conceive (TTC) journey, which involved 16 IUI cycles. Recognizing the profound lack of resources and support available for queer parents-to-be, Morgan was inspired to create a space where others could find the guidance, community, and compassion that was missing from her own experience. I AM MAMO offers a range of services designed to ensure that queer individuals and couples feel seen, supported, and celebrated throughout their journey to becoming parents.

With a background in event planning, community building, and place-making, Morgan brings a unique blend of creativity, empathy, and expertise to her work. Her professional journey has always centered around fostering connection and creating spaces of celebration, and she now channels those skills into helping others build the families they’ve always dreamed of. Through personalized consultations, group support, and practical tools, Morgan is committed to empowering queer parents-to-be, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement they need every step of the way. Let’s jump right in!

Can you walk us through your professional journey and how you got to where you are today?

My professional journey began in event planning, design, and community building, where I focused on creating spaces that fostered connection and celebration. I’ve had the privilege of coordinating large-scale events like international night markets and managing farmers' markets, overseeing logistics for hundreds of vendors and thousands of attendees. These experiences honed my skills in bringing people together and building community, which has always been at the heart of my work.

However, after becoming a mom and navigating my own trying-to-conceive (TTC) journey, I felt a shift in my professional focus. The emotional challenges and the lack of resources specifically tailored to queer people during this process made me realize that I wanted to contribute something more intimate and impactful. This led me to pivot my career towards becoming a queer parenthood consultant, where I now help others navigate their own TTC journeys.

“My work is deeply personal and draws on my lived experience, offering support and guidance to those in need of a compassionate and understanding companion on their path to parenthood.”

What inspired you to offer the services you provide?

The inspiration behind my services came directly from the struggles I faced during my own TTC journey, which began in 2019. My wife and I went through a grueling process of 16 IUI cycles, with me personally undergoing 14 of those. This journey was not only physically and emotionally demanding, but it also highlighted the glaring lack of resources and support available for queer couples trying to conceive.

We often felt marginalized and unsupported in medical environments that were not designed with our needs in mind. The scarcity of reliable, affirming resources forced us to navigate much of this journey on our own, relying on piecemeal information from online searches and a few shared experiences from other queer couples. This isolation and the challenges we faced inspired me to create a service that would fill that gap—a supportive network where queer individuals and couples can find the resources, guidance, and community they need during their fertility journey.

My goal is to provide a space where others don’t have to feel the same loneliness or confusion that we did. I want to offer the kind of compassionate, inclusive support that was missing for us, ensuring that every queer person on this journey feels seen, valued, and empowered as they work toward their dream of parenthood.

What is one of the biggest challenges you have faced in your journey as a service provider, and what did you do to overcome this?

One of the biggest challenges I've faced is the difficulty of building something from the ground up as a creative, especially when you don't immediately see the impact of your work. Transitioning from creating tangible, visual experiences like event installations to offering a service that’s more abstract has been tough. There’s a lot of uncertainty in not knowing how people will receive your work. To overcome this, I’ve focused on the long game—building relationships, having meaningful conversations, and creating a network of resources. It’s about trusting the process and knowing that the impact will come, even if it's not immediate.

If you could give one piece of advice to future LGBTQ+ service providers within your field, what would it be?

If you’re drawn to being a service provider supporting queer folks, especially in the TTC part of family planning, go for it. The journey is deeply personal and can be challenging, but the need for these services is profound. Trust your lived experience and let it guide you in offering the kind of support that only you can provide.

How does being openly queer inspire or impact your business?

Being openly queer is central to my business. It’s not just about providing a service; it’s about creating a space where queer people feel seen, supported, and celebrated. My own experience as a queer parent who has navigated the TTC journey informs everything I do.

“It’s important to me that my clients know they are getting someone who truly understands their experience, because I’ve lived it too.”

What brands or services by LGBTQ+ founders are your go-to's and why?

Of course Dancing With Her, Androgynous Fox, TomboyX are three that come to mind but also this is the first time in 10+ years I've put myself in a mix of so many queer brands and services so I'm looking forward to discovering and connecting with more now!

Who is your favorite LGBTQ+ celebrity and why?

I admire comedians like Fortune Feimster and Hannah Gadsby for their humor, as well as Megan Rapinoe and Chef Kristen Kish for their strength and leadership. They’re all smart, powerful champions who inspire me with their authenticity and impact.

Can you share one fun fact about yourself?

I have an obsession with all things corn. I eat popcorn at least once a week and have had lengthy conversations about toppings, tortilla chips (and trying new varieties), corn fritters, grits, polenta, corn chips, tortillas, and cornbread. I legitimately look forward to the local corn season here.
