Mel Brittner Wells is the founder of Beefcake Swimwear, a queer-owned and operated company based in Missoula, Montana. Mel started this journey in 2015 when she created a 1920s style swimsuit for one of her non-binary friends. After two years of prototyping and testing, Beefcake Swimwear launched on Kickstarter in the spring of 2017 and reached over 300% of their goal.
What started as a small business aimed at serving the LGBTQ+ community quickly grew into a global brand that offers swimsuits for diverse gender expressions, ages, and body types. Beefcake Swimwear prides itself on being a sustainable company, printing their swimsuits in small batches and using high-performance fabric made from recycled fishing nets. With a focus on affordability and a commitment to living wages, Mel and her team are dedicated to creating quality swimsuits that are made with the environment in mind.
