In 2016, while pursuing his undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, Jameel Mohammed was struck by a statement from the CEO of a global luxury goods company, "True luxury brands could only originate from Paris or Milan, given their distinct histories of artisanship and cultural heritage." Undeterred and inspired, Jameel founded KHIRY to challenge this Eurocentric view, seeking to channel the African diaspora's profound beauty, art, and culture into contemporary, luxurious vermeil jewelry.
His ambitious vision for KHIRY extends further, aiming to establish a comprehensive fashion house that represents a deep interrogation of dominant narratives, innovative techniques, and media creation, and an unwavering commitment to truth. His pieces not only push against stifling tradition but also seek to forge an understanding of history on their own terms, creating an archive that beautifully mirrors life, reflecting its past and potential for the future.
