Tanaïs (née Tanwi Nandini Islam), a writer and perfumer based in New York City, embraces a blended identity that honors their heritage and future ambitions. As a Muslim woman writer, they adopted the name Tanaïs, a portmanteau of their initials, symbolizing their journey.
Tanaïs's book, IN SENSORIUM: Notes for My People, delves into the realms of scent, sensuality, South Asian and Muslim perfume cultures, colonization, and global environmental and border crises. Their work is characterized by its intersectional and feminist approach. Constant growth and evolution propel Tanaïs to explore new scents and concepts inspired by their literary endeavors.
